Everywhere I ate in London: June
The best pasta, burger and seafood tower you'll find in London!
If you're anything like me, half the fun of living in London is planning your month around where to eat next. June had a great mix of everything, from solo pastries and park doughnuts to bougie seafood towers and pasta I haven’t stopped thinking about since. Here’s a little round-up of all the places I ate last month (with full honesty, always). If you’re new here, hit subscribe for monthly London food diaries, date ideas and girly recs.
Bleecker Burger, Spitalfields, ££
One of the best smash burgers you’ll experience in London, in my honest opinion. Situated in Spitalfields Market, this is just my go to if I’m after dinner in the area (and bonus points for if it’s after a pub session with friends). The fries are just okay (portions are big so share a portion or skip entirely), the Oreo milkshake was well worth the acne the following week and the single patty burger is just so good - juicy, perfectly cooked smash burger with melted cheese and onion. Definitely on the more pricey side for a burger though - my burger, chips and milkshake came to just over £20.
Padella, Shoreditch, ££
Since I realised there was a bookable Padella restaurant in Shoreditch I have been there about 6 times! Padella is that viral tiny pasta restaurant in Borough Market and the pasta (and tiramisu) is really worth the hype. G and I shared the bruschetta with anchovies to start and I had the ndjua pasta for main - it’s on the spicy side but creamy and indulgent. I also really love the ravioli and the beef parppadelle in Padella!
Sable D’or, Muswell Hill, £
Technically not a restaurant and more of a coffee shop/bakery, but I took myself on a solo date in Muswell Hill and had breakfast here. The pain au chocolat was great and even better when dunked into my oat latte! If I visited again I’d try some of their fresh looking salads!
PS - I think i’m going to go on a mission to find the best pain au chocolat in London - thoughts? This was up there as a great one as it had a decent amount of chocolate and a soft buttery pastry.
Astrid Bakery, Muswell Hill, £
Apparently one of London’s tiniest bakeries, I picked up an iced matcha and blueberry lemon doughnut on my day out and enjoyed them in Alexandra Park (about a 10 minute walk up a hill). I don’t usually go for fruity desserts but I’d definitely have this doughnut again - sharp but sweet blueberry jam filling with a lemon drizzle icing on top - fab!
The Ivy City, Liverpool Street, ££
We visited the Ivy near Liverpool Street for my Father’s Day this yer (followed by a trip to Immersive Gamebox with the family which was SO fun). I think we were all a little disappointed by our trip here - service was super slow (food came out after a wait, but before our drinks!). I had the steak tartare to start which was flavourless and the miso aubergine salad was just okay! It’s a shame as the Ivy collection are usually quite consistent! Saying this - I did nibble on a bit of Genie’s fish and chips and it was v tasty!
Dudleys, Walthamstow, ££
If you’re after a lovely (instagrammable) brunch or lunch date in Walthamstow, Dudleys is the place to go. The sweetcorn fritters are my go-to order, they’re served up on top of humous, with poached eggs and chilli oil - order the halloumi or hash browns on the side for an extra treat.
Bob Bob Ricard, £££
I haven’t been to Bob Bob Ricard for YEARS so when I was invited to try some of their new dishes I was very excited. Famous for it’s ‘press for champagne’ button, the decor here is reminiscent of an art deco train carriage and the cuisine is very much opulent British and French classes inspired by the golden age - think beef wellington, chicken Kievs and now prawn cocktails, lobster mayo and caviar pasta.
After devouring the prawns and lobster on the ‘Fruits de Mer’ tower, I dived into a fish pie (which was almost too perfect to eat), it was full of mussels, prawns and haddock in a champagne veloute - unreal! For dessert I recommend the Chocolate Glory - for taste and for the theatre of having hot melted chocolate sauce drizzled over the globe.
That’s a wrap on June’s food diary! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these or if there’s a spot I should add to my July list (I love hearing your recommendations). And if you enjoyed this round-up, don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss next month’s eats (plus my guides, date ideas, and London finds).
Lots of love, Katie xx
