A little belated monthly roundup but I definitely wanted to share this as I have some nice recipes to share and general updates! Here’s some of my favourite moments, trips, food + outfits throughout the month of August.
Travelling:
To celebrate my 36th birthday my wonderful husband took me for a weekend away at The Pig in the New Forest which was such a memorable treat. Not only is the decor in this hotel right up my street (think taxidermy, rustic farm-house, cosy + mismatched furniture vibes), but the food at the restaurant is so beautiful. Every ingredient is sourced within a 24 mile distance meaning it’s all local and super fresh! If you have a special occasion coming up, the Pig makes a fantastic venue either for a night away or a meal in their restaurant.
I also took myself on a solo day date to Oxford in August and I’ll be sharing my must visit spots in a sub stack very soon!
Reading:
I’ve just started reading the Game of Thrones series and am loving book 1 so far! I love how each chapter is told from a different character’s perspective and having watched the series, it helps being able to put a face to the name for the huge range of characters!
Eating:
We tried out the Bold Beans cheesy marmite beans on toast recipe that I found on Instagram and which I recommend - we added some cholula hot sauce on top for a bit of heat! I definitely think next time we can upgrade this, with a touch of paprika and maybe some tomato paste!
Meanwhile we’ve had loads of delicious gousto recipes throughout August, my favs have included a chicken + spinach quinoa salad, a smoked mackerel salad, a chicken thigh biryani and an aubergine Sicilian style stew with couscous. (Let me know if you want our Gousto code for some money off!)
A new at home obsession are Tru Fru which are little frozen fruit pieces covered in chocolate - they are so delicious and such a nice after dinner snack that doesn’t feel too bad for you. My favourites are the milk chocolate strawberries and the dark chocolate raspberries - I really recommend!
I’ve decided that from September I’m going to write a review of each restaurant I visit each month because this post would be WAY too long if I was to include here, but this month we tried new cocktails + hotdogs at Bar Engel, Mexican tacos at Taco Cat, I travelled to Holborn for the Iced Tiramisu Latte from Fred, some delicious pizza at Mare Street Market and I celebrated my birthday with my family at famous Tayabs for an Indian in Whitechapel (which was amazing but oh so spicy!).
London Activities:
In August my friend Mo took G and I for a day out at Buckingham Palace which was so great! We started with the Royal Portraits exhibition (if you love the royals and have an interest in photography I think you’d enjoy this), followed by a visit to the Royal Mews to see the Royal Carriages, and we ended with a trip to the Buckingham Palace State Rooms which was my fav of the day. The decor at the artwork they have in the state rooms is absolutely incredible, I want all of my friends to visit too!
I also took part in a charity knit along at Southwark Cathedral where lots of people gathered to knit or crochet squares that will be seamed together to make blankets for those experiencing homelessness in London. This was such a heartwarming event that I was so happy to join in on.
Wearing
Since decluttering my wardrobe recently (watch me declutter here) I’ve really enjoyed getting dressed every day - I can see everything I’ve got and have been enjoying wearing items that haven’t had love in a while. I’ve rediscovered some old favourites including this midi skirt that I got from Primark about 10 years ago and a strapless striped jumpsuit from Next that I love but haven’t worn in years!!
Knitting
Early August I started knitting my first summer garment pattern which is the Audrey top by Petite Knit and I finished it in time for the bank holiday weekend. I used a linen blend yarn for this knit and whilst I didn’t enjoy working with this yarn (I found it super splity + rough on my hands) but after washing the knit it’s so light and airy and beautiful to wear.
I legit can’t believe we’re almost half way through September now! This time of year time seems to fly by, but I hope you’re having a great month so far!
Lots of love
